President Trump announces at the National Space Council that he has directed the Pentagon to create a “separate but equal” Space Force to go along with the Air Force. The President said, “we are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the Space Force.”
The project is meant to be an employment increase and a “dominance” in space. New productions of space stations, space shuttles, and other spacecrafts will need increases in “welders, metal workers, scientists, and engineers.” The President says, “I’m hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a Space Force as the sixth branch of the Armed Forces.”
While the President describes the new branch in terms of the employment capability, speculations have begun about how the Space Force will differ from NASA and the kinds of military capability the Space Force will have. Furthermore, the Space Force will give President Trump a topic that Democrats will likely approve of while he’s in the middle of an immigration policy nightmare.
The meeting was also meant to address a new policy to reduce satellite clutter and traffic in space. To avoid collisions and manage what goes into the orbital environment, new designs and guidelines will be needed to manage future endeavors.
