A couple in California is being held with a $9 million dollar bail after police say they found 12 children in their home, some shackled to beds.
David Turpin, 57 and Lisa Turpin, 49, were found with 12 children in their home after their seventeen year old daughter had ‘escaped.’ Originally police believed that the girl was only about ten years old based on her frail and emaciated state.
Not all of the ‘children’ found were under the age of 18, classifying some of them as adults. All of which were being ‘held in the home.’ The children claimed to be starving once in the custody of police and were given food and drink.
The couple face 12 counts of torture, seven counts of abuse of a dependent adult, six counts of child abuse and 12 counts false imprisonment. Mr. Turpin is also charged with one count of a lewd act against a child. The two could face 49 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.
Other sources say that the couple had declared bankruptcy twice in their stay in California; where they have lived since 2010 to present, and before that they were located in Texas.
